A facelift is the penultimate for rejuvenating the face as it allows me to address all
of the different factors that may be contributing to your facial aging in one
procedure. There are a number of different techniques. As a double board-certified
facial plastic, and head and neck surgeon, I am adamant about delivering the most
exemplary, natural looking results for my Boston area patients. This is why I
perform the Deep Plane Facelift technique. In my professional opinion, the benefits
of this cutting-edge technique far exceed those of a standard facelift. One of the
potential stumbling blocks for patients when considering any surgery, however, is
the downtime. What it the recovery like with a deep plane facelift? While every
patient heals at his or her own rate, here is a general timeline for what you can
expect.
What to Expect After Your Deep Plane Facelift in Boston?
With a deep plane facelift, I am able to lift your underlying muscle and surface
skin as one unit. This is why there is no weird “pulling” on the face. Instead, we
are simply returning your skin and tissues to a more youthful looking position.
People will comment on how great you look without ever asking if you had
something “done”. Since this is a surgical procedure that requires incisions, you
will have stitches that will stay in place for 6-7 days depending on your body.
Everyone heals differently. However, there are steps that you can take to ensure
that your body has the support it needs to recover as quickly as possible. These
include:
• Healthful diet
• Staying hydrated
• Getting enough sleep
• Following post-op instructions carefully
Immediately after surgery, you can expect some swelling. This is the body’s
natural healing reaction to any kind of trauma. You may also some bruising. I will
place you in a facial wrap that you will wear 24/7 for one week, and then only at
night for another week.
When Can I Return to Social Activities after a Deep Plane Facelift?
In general, you can expect two weeks of social downtime. I like to tell patients to
consider this time a “staycation”. You can catch-up on Netflix, read the book that’s
been gathering dust on your bedside table and catch-up with old friends via text or
phone. At around 14 days post-op, most patients feel ok venturing out to Whole
Foods, or going to dinner with their best friend or spouse. Obviously, it is a
personal decision as to when you feel comfortable being seen. But by this point,
any remaining bruising should be minimal and easily covered with makeup while
any swelling will be noticeable to you, but not necessarily to others. In terms of a
big social event, I advise patients to give themselves at least 1-2 months. The nice
thing about a deep plane facelift is that your results will continue to improve
throughout the year.
