The nose occupies a critical piece of real estate in the center of your face. If it is not the right size or shape, it can adversely affect your entire appearance, making you feel self-conscious and not as comfortable in your skin as you may like. A “nose job” or rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to change the form and function of your nose. As a double board-certified facial plastic and ear, nose, and throat surgeon, I have extensive experience in all of the different rhinoplasty techniques, including cutting-edge ultrasonic rhinoplasty. This is a procedure that is not only a cornerstone of my practice but also one of my favorites to perform, as it requires an equal combination of technical skill and artistry. Furthermore, one of the many advantages of an ultrasonic piezo rhinoplasty is that it’s not as invasive as a traditional rhinoplasty, resulting in less trauma to your tissues. This typically leads to a better recovery with less post-operative swelling, bruising, and pain.

What is an Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty?

The difference between a traditional rhinoplasty and an ultrasonic rhinoplasty is in how the excess bone is removed. The former uses a chisel and hammer while the latter uses energy. In an ultrasonic rhinoplasty, I place a small, hand-held device into your nose. This device vibrates at such a high frequency that it can break up bone, allowing me to selectively and precisely re-sculpt your nasal bones and cartilage into the ideal size and shape for your facial anatomy with significantly less trauma to your tissues. The end result is a faster and less painful recovery. Since time is a premium for most of us, this procedure has been a game changer for my Boston area patients and I am proud to have significant experience in this advanced technique.

Ideal Candidate for Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty in Boston

The ideal candidate for an ultrasonic piezo rhinoplasty is any man or woman:

  • Over the age of 16
  • In good overall health
  • Non-smoker

Who is bothered by an unsightly bump on the nose or a nose that is too wide for the face. The goal of any nose job is to create proper proportion. One of the things that is so interesting about a well-executed rhinoplasty is how it can also improve the appearance of the rest of your facial features. This is because the human eye perceives a face that is balanced as being more attractive, youthful, and vital-looking.

Benefits of an Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty

There are numerous benefits to an ultrasonic piezo rhinoplasty. First and foremost, I can achieve a superior result as this technique gives me a direct line of sight into your nose as well as total control. By only removing the exact right amount of bone in the exact right spots, I am able to literally sculpt your nose into its ideal form. As mentioned, the ultrasonic technique is not as invasive so most patients experience a much easier recovery. Generally, you can expect less bruising and swelling than with a traditional approach. And since swelling is the root cause of pain, your recovery from an ultrasonic rhinoplasty should be less painful. However, this is surgery so you are still looking at about 2 weeks of downtime. Just think of all the Netflix you can watch and how happy you’ll feel with a nose that finally fits your face!
