Liposuction is one of those procedures with benefits that far exceed simply getting rid of extra “fluff”. Almost everyone has pockets of excess fat. However, when these pockets are of a significant size or located in a certain spot, it can throw off your entire body contour. When your body is not in proper proportion, it may make you feel defeated, tired, and older than your years. One of the things that I love most about performing liposuction is that my Boston area patients always tell me how much more energy and self-confidence they have after their procedure. Liposuction is, however, surgery, so many potential patients want to know: “Is Liposuction Expensive?”.
Cost of Liposuction in Boston
One of the greatest things about liposuction is its versatility. If a pocket of fat is subcutaneous, meaning it can be pulled away from your body, then we can remove it with liposuction whether it’s located in your:
- Abdomen
- Chest
- Upper arms
- Thighs
- Hips
- Ankles
- Buttocks
- Cheeks
- Waist
- Chin
For this reason, the cost range for liposuction in one of my Boston area offices is broad. It could be as little as $5,000 or as much as $20,000, depending on the number of areas being treated, the amount of fat that needs to be removed, and the type of anesthesia that we need to choose.
Other Things to Consider Beyond Price Tag
Something that I always stress with my patients is that cost is about more than just a final price tag. Liposuction, specifically, is what I like to call a one-and-done procedure. By this, I mean that assuming that your weight stays relatively stable, your results are permanent. So your upfront cost may be higher than with a non-surgical option, but you need to amortize this money over your many years of enjoyment. Furthermore, as already mentioned, this is one of those procedures that deliver benefits both physically and emotionally, and most would agree that feeling more comfortable in your skin is truly priceless.
Are You a Candidate for Liposuction?
If you are bothered by the way that your body looks, liposuction may be a solution. First, I would strongly encourage you to schedule an in-person consultation. The web is great for educating new patients about body contouring options. However, your anatomy is unique, and what worked for someone online may not be the right procedure for achieving your desired result. The ideal candidate for liposuction is any man or woman in:
- Good overall health
- BMI (body mass index) of 30 or less
- Has healthy skin with appropriate elasticity
- Pockets of localized fat
It is important to keep in mind that liposuction is not a weight loss technique. In fact, the scale may not change by much. This procedure is about sculpting your body contour so that it is in harmony. When, for example, excess fat is removed from the abdomen, it may make your torso look longer and leaner, and your waist appears smaller.
Most Popular Liposuction Areas for Men and Women
Liposuction can work on any area of excess submental fat. You want, however, to have healthy enough skin with an appropriate amount of elasticity so that it can reform over your new body contour. In my Boston area practices, there are certain areas that are the most popular by gender. For my female patients, it is definitely the abdomen. Pregnancy, hormones, and age can all cause women to carry more fat in their abdominal region. For men, the most popular liposuction area is the chest. Many men suffer from gynecomastia or “male boobs”. If this is due to excess fat alone, then liposuction is the best option for restoring a smooth, flat chest contour.
