Aging is a privilege. It happens to all of us. How fast the signs of each passing birthday manifest on your face is going to depend on any number of factors, including genetics and lifestyle choices like sun exposure. Some people aren’t bothered by their fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Others, however, do not appreciate the disconnect between how young they feel on the inside and their outward appearance. If you fall into this latter category, there are any number of facial rejuvenation procedures that can subtly turn back the clock. As a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, a deep plane facelift is the gold standard as it allows me the most access in order to deliver an elegant, natural, and more youthful-looking visage. Here are some things to consider when deciding whether or not a facelift is right for you.
Deep Plane Facelift in Boston is Best for Lifting Sagging Skin
I am a big proponent of scheduling an in-person consultation whenever possible. It is truly the best way for me to assess the ideal treatment plan for your anatomy, lifestyle and goals. In our meeting, I will listen attentively to what is bothering you about your face. I will ask detailed questions about your medical history, family history, any prior procedures, including injectables, and how your body healed. Every patient is unique so these questions help me to establish how your individual body may respond to surgery. Next, I will perform an in-depth physical exam to assess your:
- Skin tone & texture
- Degree of sagging in the tissues
- Volume loss
- Relationship between upper face, lower face & neck
- Jawline delineation
- Fine lines & wrinkles
While there any number of non-surgical procedures to address fine lines, wrinkles and volume loss, a moderate to severe amount of sagging skin is going to be best addressed with a facelift.
Benefits of a Deep Plane Facelift
There are many benefits of achieving your desired facial rejuvenation with a deep plane facelift. In this procedure, I am lifting and tightening the deeper tissues of your face and then redraping the skin over your new contour. This is why there is no weird pulling on the surface of your skin. Instead, I can deliver the kind of natural-looking result that will have friends asking what spa you just visited, not what you had done. A deep plane facelift is also a one-and-done procedure in which I can address all of the underlying issues that are contributing to your facial aging at the same time. While you may require some ongoing upkeep with injectables, the results of a facelift are long-lasting. Generally, I tell patients that I can take up to a decade off their face, and though your face will continue to age, it will also continue to look 10 years younger than your actual age.
Tolerance for Downtime
An important consideration when deciding whether or not a facelift is right for you is going to be your tolerance for downtime. A deep plane facelift is a surgical procedure that requires an investment of time for recovery. Generally, I like my facelift patients to lay low for the first two weeks following surgery. Your face will be bruised and swollen, and you will have some stitches. I don’t want you leaning over, cleaning or doing any kind of strenuous exercise. Your job during this time is to eat well, hydrate and give your body all the rest and care it needs to heal appropriately. The end result is worth it. I promise.
