A double chin is an incredibly common problem area for both men and women of all ages. Some studies say that up to 68% of the population is unhappy with the appearance of their chin. There are a number of different treatment options to help get rid of a double chin. The right one for you is going to depend on the underlying cause, such as genetics, weight gain/loss, or age. Every patient is unique. This is why it is so important to schedule an in-person consultation as your dissatisfaction with the appearance of your chin may be due to excess fat, loose skin, or a combination of the two. There are both non-surgical and surgical procedures for how to get rid of a double chin. The key to an outstanding outcome is choosing the right one for your anatomy, desired result, and tolerance for downtime.

Deep Plane Neck Lift to Improve a Double Chin

The gold standard for improving the appearance of the chin/neck juncture is a deep plane neck lift. Liposuction is always a component of this surgical procedure, giving me the most access in order to address all of the underlying conditions that may be contributing to your double chin. These include:

  • Excess fat
  • Loose, sagging skin
  • Weak neck muscles

Generally speaking, a deep plane neck lift is going to be the best option for older patients whose skin and tissues have lost elasticity with time. However, some younger patients who are genetically inclined to carry excess fat under the chin and/or have a body type in which the neck juts forward may also be ideal candidates for surgery. Another advantage of the deep plane neck lift for getting rid of a double chin is that the chin and the neck work in tandem, and this is one procedure that can significantly improve both areas.

Non-Surgical Procedures to Get Rid of a Double Chin in Boston

For younger patients or someone who does not want to deal with surgery and is willing to trade a less robust result for no incisions or anesthesia, there are non-surgical procedures to get rid of a double chin. For excess fat, liposuction is my treatment of choice. While this is technically not non-surgical, it can be performed under local anesthesia and the incisions are so small that they do not even require stitches. I prefer it as the results are much better and more predictable than any non-surgical fat reduction technique. For loose skin, I like:

  • FaceTite
  • Profound RF

While either can be a stand-alone procedure, I may combine one of these with liposuction in order to address all of your double chin issues at once.
