Volume loss is one of the key drivers of aging in the skin and tissues of your face
and body. If you think about it, we use the term “baby face” to describe someone
who’s very youthful looking. This is because babies have a lot of volume in their
tissues which results in full, round faces and smooth, plump skin. Unfortunately,
even those of us who take exceptional care of ourselves are going to experience a
gradual decline in skin tone over time. Dermal fillers are an easy, effective
treatment for restoring this lost volume. However, it is a non-surgical procedure
that does require on-going maintenance. My goal is to always deliver an
exemplary, long-lasting result with every procedure. I also take cost seriously. This
is why I spend considerable time during your initial consultation answering the
question: How long do dermal fillers last?
Fillers May Last Anywhere from 6 Months to 2 Years
The longevity of a filler can be anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. The reason for
such a wide range is that heavier fillers last longer than lighter ones. All hyaluronic
acid (HA) based dermal fillers come in a variety of weights. By this, I am referring
to the density of the HA molecule in a specific filler. Juvéderm Voluma® XC, for
example, has heavier molecules than Juvéderm® Ultra XC. This makes the former
better for more significant volume loss in the mid-face/cheeks while the latter is
one of my go-to products for treating lips, fine lines and wrinkles. So, how long a
filler lasts is going to depend on which fillers we use. Genetics and metabolism
may also play a role as some bodies seem to hold on to filler longer than others.
How your specific body reacts will become more apparent after your first
treatment.
Best Dermal Fillers in Boston
In order for any treatment plan to be effective, it must be individualized. So, the
best dermal filler is always going to depend on your unique anatomy and needs.
This is why it is so critical to see a board-certified plastic surgeon with a lot of
experience in injectables. Despite the fact that this is one of those procedures that
has become almost normalized by its popularity, it is still a medical procedure that
requires:
• Proper training
• Skin preparation
• Expertise
• Artistic eye
A good dermal fillers result should be completely natural looking. My job is to
restore your skin and tissues so that they look appropriately plump and youthful.
This is critical everywhere on the face and body, but is particularly important in the
lips. We’ve all seen how too much lip filler can distort a person’s entire
appearance. Furthermore, consistently “overstuffing” your lips with filler may even
stretch the skin and tissues beyond their ability to ever bounce back to your natural
shape. And no one wants that!
