Gynecomastia is a condition that can affect men of all ages. Often derisively referred to as “man boobs”, it is defined as an excess of breast tissue, fat or both in the chest area. As the masculine ideal is a smooth, flat chest, men with gynecomastia are often extremely self-conscious. Furthermore, you can work out regularly and eat a healthful diet, and still have gynecomastia. It can be very frustrating for my Boston area patients. The nice thing is that there are a number of effective treatment options for improving the appearance of your chest. The right one is going to depend on your needs. So, figuring out the expense of a gynecomastia procedure must always begin with an in-person consultation.
Gynecomastia Cost
The cost of any procedure is something that I take seriously. I will always be honest with you about exactly what you can expect in terms of total expense. This includes not only the actual cost of the procedure, but also what it will require in terms of downtime as well as how long you can expect the results to last. When it comes to the cost of treating your gynecomastia, it is going to depend on which procedure you’ll need. During your initial consultation, I will perform a thorough physical exam to assess your:
- Skin tone & texture
- Location & volume of excess fat
- Degree of excess glandular tissue, if any
Most new patients who come in to discuss gynecomastia have done some research online. Always a fan of patient education, the downside of the web is that it doesn’t take into account your unique anatomy. And while every man would like to address his gynecomastia with liposuction alone, this is only effective if your “man boobs” are only the result of too much fat.
Male Chest Contouring Surgery
Many men have too much glandular tissue in addition to fat. These patients are going to need male chest contouring surgery in order to remove said tissue. This is a more robust procedure that comes with more time in the operating room and therefore, a higher price tag. I will also typically combine a male chest reduction with liposuction in order to re-sculpt your chest into its ideal proportion. So, the cost range for a gynecomastia procedure is between $9,000 and $11,000. If we can improve the appearance of your chest with liposuction alone, it will require less downtime than male chest contouring surgery. The cost for this procedure ranges between $6,000 and $9,000, depending on the type of anesthesia necessary. But the good news with both options is that the results are long-lasting assuming that your weight stays stable.
