Facial aging happens to everyone. Certain factors such as sun exposure, diet and hormones may speed up the process, but your skin and tissues inevitably loose tone over time. The end result can be sagging in the lower face, neck and above the brow. A facelift is a surgical procedure to turn-back-the-clock by lifting loose skin, tissue and muscle, if necessary. While the point of a facelift is to make you look younger, it is important to see a highly skilled, board-certified facial plastic surgeon, such as myself, as you want your results to be completely natural looking. In my opinion, a good facelift should never be obvious. You would like people to notice that you look great without being able to exactly pinpoint why. Here are some things to keep in mind when considering a facelift.
Deep Plane Facelift in Boston
Within the overarching category of facelift, there are a number of different techniques for delivering facial rejuvenation. These include:
- Deep Plane Facelift
- Vertical Facelift
- Mini Facelift
The right one for you is going to depend on your unique anatomy, desired outcome and lifestyle. It is never one size fits all which is why I am always adamant about scheduling an in-person consultation whenever possible. As a double board- certified facial plastic surgeon, I am adept in all aspects of facelift surgery. One of my favorite techniques for delivering a more youthful countenance without any tell tale signs is the deep plane facelift. This is the kind of advanced surgical technique for which Boston Center for Plastic Surgery (BCFPS) is known. Ideal for lifting and sculpting the lower face and neck, what I like about this technique is that I am working in the deeper tissues, including the SMAS (Superficial Musculo- Aponeurotic System). This allows me to take years off your face without any strange pulling on the surface of the skin. You will still look like you, only better.
Goal is Rejuvenation, Not Alteration
As mentioned, my facelift philosophy is to deliver rejuvenation, not alteration. I want your results to look elegant and completely natural. Potential patients will typically ask how many years can a facelift erase? Honestly, it’s going to depend
on the extent of your facial aging, and the health of your skin and tissues. Every patient ages at his or her individual rate. Factors such as:
- Genetics
- Time spent in the sun
- Living in or near a big, polluted city
- Diet
- Hydration levels
- Hormones
- Weight gain/loss
These can all make you look older than you feel. Generally, I tell patients that a facelift takes off about a decade, and though your skin and tissues will continue to age after your procedure, your face will continue to look ten years younger. This does not mean that you will not need a “tweak” with injectables or fat grafting, but a facelift can be the kind of gift to yourself that keeps on giving.
