Do you know who is doing your aesthetic procedure? This may seem like an odd question, but many patients today don’t realize that, depending on where you live, anyone with a medical degree can perform plastic surgery. The question is — should they? Just like I am not qualified to do your root canal, is it smart to have your dentist or gynecologist administer your Botox®, for example? As someone who prioritizes patient safety and exemplary, natural-looking results, I’d answer a resounding “no”. Even with something as ubiquitous as injectables, this is still a medical procedure that can go very wrong in inexperienced hands. So, here are some of the benefits of seeing a plastic surgeon.

Board-Certified = Extensive Training in Boston

I take my vocation seriously. For this reason, I am actually double board-certified in:

  • Facial plastic surgery
  • Head and neck surgery

While there are good plastic surgeons who have yet to take their boards, the benefit of seeing a board-certified plastic surgeon is that it is a guarantee that he or she has undergone extensive training as well as on-going education in the latest aesthetic techniques. In my case, I’ve done it twice. Seeing someone who is board-certified is a “trust” short cut. It means that I’ve been vetted by a third party on my technical skill, knowledge, expertise and artistic eye. Furthermore, achieving board certification takes time so you know when you see a board-certified plastic surgeon, we have experience.

Plastic Surgeon = Safer Result

The importance of experience cannot be understated. As with anything, the more you do it, the better your skills become. So, a plastic surgeon with considerable experience has more knowledge to deliver an excellent, natural-looking result. The flip side of this coin is that seeing a plastic surgeon may also be a safer choice.

Despite what the internet may lead you to believe, aesthetic procedures can be complex. You want to ensure that you are in the hands of someone who knows what to do if things don’t go exactly as planned. I put considerable time and effort into evaluating your aesthetic needs, medical history as well as how your individual body heals before I ever pick up a needle, let alone a scalpel. My goal is to do everything within my power to make certain that we safely achieve the elegant end result that you desire.
